ChessHeads is a trading card game published by WizerGames in the United States that is designed to be played alongside a standard chess set rather than as a standalone product. Players must know the basic moves of chess pieces, then augment the game each turn by drawing and playing cards from a collectible deck that introduces special actions: fireballs, dimensional vortexes, creature summons, and other fantasy-themed events that disrupt or reshape the ongoing chess match. The game's lore frames the conflict as a dimensional struggle between the human world and a place called the Qualwirld dimension. Decks are built to a minimum of 30 cards with no maximum size. Edition 1a contains 121 unique cards, and each Deck Builder box ships with 30 randomly assorted cards from that set. The game was later republished under the Mindspan Labs brand as ChessHeads Deck Builder. Its hybrid nature, requiring a separate chess set to function, placed it in a narrow niche that limited mainstream TCG adoption.
