The Hyper Battle Series is a collectible card format published by Bandai in Japan beginning in October 1999, distributed through the company's Carddass vending machines in four-card randomized packs priced at 100 yen each. Cards were released in sequential sets called Stages, supplemented by Grand Box pre-built deck products sold in hobby shops. The format initially launched alongside the Hoshin Engi property before expanding to tie in with the Toei One Piece anime (making it the franchise's first trading cards), as well as Hunter x Hunter and Soul Hunter. Illustrations drew primarily from anime screenshots and concept art. Three successive rule sets were introduced across the series, with the Grand Rule being the most complete gameplay variant, though early sets placed heavier emphasis on collection gimmicks such as 3x3 grid treasure maps than on competitive play. The Hyper Battle Series ran from November 1999 through early 2002, adapting characters and story elements up through the Arabasta Arc of One Piece.
