Ultima Generation: Road to Avatar is a collectible card game published by DigiCube and released exclusively in Japan in June 2002. The game was licensed from Electronic Arts and is based on the Ultima role-playing video game franchise created by Richard Garriott. It was designed by Hidetsugu Ishikiriyama and announced alongside a free promotional card included in the Japan-exclusive release of Ultima Complete. Players take the role of one of the lords of Britannia, the fictional realm at the heart of the Ultima series. The thematic core of the game mirrors the series' famous virtue system: eight virtues drawn directly from the games (Spirituality, Honor, Compassion, Valor, Justice, Honesty, Sacrifice, and Humility) function as casting resources, with virtuous lords summoning adventurers using positive virtues while evil lords summon monsters by spending or depleting virtue. The lord who controls all eight virtues and defends their territory wins. As a Japan-only release for a Western video game franchise, the game occupied an unusual niche and was short-lived, leaving minimal documentation outside dedicated Ultima fan communities.
